Niacinamide, a form of Vitamin B3, is among the most researched ingredients in skincare, valued across barrier support, tone and oil balance.
Lactic Acid is an alpha-hydroxy acid that gently exfoliates the surface while also drawing in water, making it one of the milder acids for sensitive skin.
Pro-Vitamin B5 (D-Panthenol) is a humectant that draws water into the skin and helps soften and soothe.
Alpha-Lipoic Acid is a dual water- and fat-soluble antioxidant, unusual in working across both the watery and oily parts of the skin.
Urea is one of the skin's own natural moisturising factors, both hydrating and gently smoothing.

Not all skincare works by targeting a single concern. Much of it does the opposite, maintaining the everyday conditions skin needs to function well, and a good deal of that comes down to water.
Skin has its own system for holding moisture. Within the outer layer sits a collection of water-binding compounds, urea, amino acids, lactates and others, known collectively as natural moisturising factor. These draw water in from deeper layers and the environment and hold it at the surface, keeping skin supple. As skin ages or is placed under stress, this system gradually becomes less efficient, which is part of why hydration grows harder to maintain.
This is why the compounds that make up natural moisturising factor are so well studied, and why the science of everyday hydration focuses less on adding water than on preserving the skin's own capacity to hold it.
