Education is a big part of achieving our mission and that means sharing useful information whenever we can. Our library is a resource that looks at a growing range of ingredients and the science behind them.
As a clinician or skin specialist, your job is inherently scientific, whether you think of it that way or not. Each day, you are selecting, applying and sharing products that, in the simplest sense, come from chemistry.
While we find the science exciting, a little addictive even, we know not everyone will hunt down the latest research like we do. So, we thought we’d do it for you.
You deserve to know what’s happening in the ever-evolving landscape of skincare!
Our library is exactly that, a growing resource centre dedicated simply to the science: what’s already known, what’s not known, and what’s emerging. We hope you enjoy learning as much as we do.
When it comes to science, research tells us antioxidants work better together.
With the right actives combined in the right ratios and the right ways, they don’t just add up, they amplify each other. To us, that’s so fascinating that we’ve created an entire article about it.
In skincare, there’s always a new trend to explore, emerging findings to monitor, and even new applications to consider. That’s all part of the science.
Underneath it all, though, are the ingredients. Here are four major skincare ingredients every clinician should know about.
The purest and most researched form of Vitamin C, it is valued as a potent antioxidant and for its role in brightening the look of skin. Read more about it.
A plant-derived antioxidant, Quercetin is used both for its own free-radical defence and for helping keep Vitamin C stable. Read more about it.
A phenolic antioxidant derived from plants, Vanillic Acid is known for its role in broadening a formula’s antioxidant defence. Read more about it.
A form of Vitamin B3, Niacinamide is among the most researched ingredients in skincare, explored deeply across barrier support, tone and oil balance. Read more about it.
Interested in learning more about what’s used in skincare? Below you will find a growing list of ingredients, for which our founder and resident researcher and antioxidant specialist, Dr Belal Chami, shares the published science on each one. Have we missed an ingredient you’re interested in? Let us know and we will add it to the list.
‘Filler’ has become a dirty word in skincare over recent years, but it shouldn’t be. The ingredients that carry, stabilise and deliver your actives aren’t in formulations to pad them out or make the bottle heavier. They are the infrastructure that supports how a formula performs.
Without the right base ingredients, even the most powerful actives can’t absorb evenly, stay stable on the shelf, or feel good enough on skin for clients to use them consistently.
So take another look at those fillers. Their job might be more important than most people realise.
